Uttar Pradesh PSC (Upper Subordinate Exam) Pattern
UPPSC exam consists of following three phases:

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type & Multiple choice).

Syllabus for the preliminary examination:

PAPER I – General Studies-I

 Current events of national and international importance.
 History of India and Indian National Movement.

 Indian and World geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.

 Indian Polity and governance – Constitution, Political System. Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights issues etc.

 Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development Poverty Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.

 General Issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change- that do not require subject specialization.

 General Science

Paper-II General Studies-II

 Comprehension
 Interpersonal skills including communication skills.

 Logical reasoning and analytical ability.

 Decision making and problem solving.

 General mental ability

 Elementary Mathematics up to Class X level- Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics.

 General English up to class Xth level.

 General Hindi up to Class Xth level.

2. Main Examination

The Written examination will consist of the following compulsory and optional subjects. The mains exam is divided as:

Compulsory Subjects:

 General Hindi 150 marks
 Essay 150 marks

 General Studies (I-Paper) 200 marks

 General Studies (II-Paper) 200 marks

Important instructions:

 There will be Conventional Type questions in mains exam.
 General Study paper 1 and paper 2 will be objective type each containing 150 question.

 All the candidates are needed to score at least minimum cutoff marks for general Hindi paper .

Optional subjects:

Two optional subjects need to be selected from the list given below: Agriculture, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Geology, Psychology ,Botany ,Law ,Animal Husbandry ,Statistics & Veterinary Science, Management, Political Science & International Relations, History Social Work ,Anthropology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering ,English Lit., Urdu Lit., Arabic Lit., Hindi Lit., Persian Lit., Sanskrit Lit., Public Administration, Agricultural Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy, Defence Studies.
